Kim Satgat Cultural Festival

Kim Satgat, the great poet of humor and satire, rests in Yeongwol.

His real name is Byeongyeon, and pen name is Nango. He was a poet who wandered all his life because of the feeling of guilt caused from writing an unforgivable poem of censuring his grandfather.
In the middle of October every year, Kim Satgat Cultural Festival is held in Norumok maeul, Hadong-myeon in which Kim Satgat grave takes place. This festival includes Memory Festival, Memory Salpuri Dance, Memory performance, writing contest and such to focus newly on Kim Satgat's poetry and life.
Here, monument in memory of Nango Kim Satgat and street of poetic monuments are created. It became a famous place with residence and grave of Kim  Satgat. The stream branched out from Taebaek Mountains to Kim Satgat remains is called 'Kim Satgat valley'. Kim Satgat called it 'Mureung Valley'(meaning Utopian valley) because it's beauty was so great.
